August 2008 update: More information soon.
my grandmother gave birth to a stillborn child that is burried in an unmarked grave that was on the family property. The problem is that the property is now in a county park. I wish that a marker could be placed on the grave site or at least on the approximate site. An ancestor named Sally Ann Dunnington was said to have been buried here after the cemetery was moved from another location due to flooding many decades ago in the 1800s or early 1900s. An old letter from her daughter Susan Dunnington Wilson said that the cemetery was "Independence" later changed to "Riverside." I think that the grave is incorrectly read and listed in Findagrave.com under the name "Sally A. Dunninsten." I would greatly appreciate one of your researchers looking to see how the gravestone reads, and what are the dates on the monument. Could you tell me when the flooding occurred and the graves were moved away from the Wabash River to the newer cemetery site. There are two Elijah Flemings; and maybe a third in Illinois and Indiana. They were all over that area since the early 1800s. I have some of the property record transactions, and some info, but I cannot connect by birth certificates, cemetery records, church records, wills or deaths, who belonged to whom. I am wandering around the countryside every couple of years in this search, and so far- nothing can connect me. There are a couple of old newspaper annouts of Elijah, but whether this was the one born in 1803 or 1830, and who the parents were is not listed anyplace. There are lots of possibilities, as in Warren County especially, in W. Lebanon there were Flemings everywhere underfoot for a while. But- where did they go? who was whose ? I can't tell. I have a cousin who has been given a shorter life time recently, and we are trying to find his and my history while he is here so that he can write his biography. If you have any photos, information or recommendations. Please let me know. Thank you. Jennifer Baldwin is the editor of the Reveiw-Republican newspaper in Warren County. (revrep@sbcglobal.net) Her Grandfather was Ray Fleming who inherited a large portion of the Fleming farms in Warren County. Maybe she can help you. |
