Underwood Cemetery - Vermilion County Illinois

Cemetery Name: Underwood Cemetery

Also Known As: Underwood Family Plot

Location:  McKendree Township, in the south-east part of Forest Glen County Park

GPS Location 40.00305 -87.53901 (link to Google Map)

Description:  I visited this cemetery in October 2007 expecting it to be hard to find - no stones standing - not kept up, but was surprised by some great work by someone (not sure who) that has cleaned up the cemetery & made things look very very nice.  There were also small stones marked with "M" and "F" - possible area being "marked" for male & female plots - so it looks like work is still going and I'm excited to revisit this cemetery to see what other work might have been done.

This cemetery is in Forest Glen County Park, but you get to the cemetery from a path from the main road (900N) - about .2 miles.  Cemetery created in 1837 by William & Margaret Underwood.

Pictures: I took pictures of EVERY stone in this cemetery in October 2007

Subject: Underwood Cemetery Origins or Underwood Family Plot

I beleive this cemetery was started By John and Drusilla Underwood, not William and Margaret. There are burials prior to 1837 and by 1838 William and Margaret Underwood were in Wisconsin. William had one son, Abram, die in Vermillion county about 1830 but I can not locate a grave for him.
