Description: There are 2-3 cemeteries in Vermilion County with a similar Sandusky/Sodowsky Cemetery, this one is located on private property just north of Indianola.
This cemetery is no longer cared for, and overgrown. There is a lane from the house back to the cemetery, get permission before visiting. ALSO - as we walked back from the cemetery to the house, we passed a draining ditch which had a couple of headstones discarded there! (Pictures # 204 - 218). After some research, I believe these were duplicate stones for a couple of "Sandusky" family who are buried at nearby Woodlawn Cemetery (in the Sandusky Lot) - The Sandusky lot have all "matching" stones, so possible these were older stones that were replaced.
Other Sites: Linda Clark Hays visited this cemetery in 2002, and posted some of her pictures HERE.
Pictures: I took pictures of EVERY stone in this cemetery in April 2010, and also 2 video's at that time. Also included below is 6 additional pictures not taken by me. One is an older picture before the small sapling grew into a tree and knocked over the tallest stone - and 5 other pictures of stones we did not find when we visited.
Internment List: I created this internment list (INDEX OF PICTURES) using my pictures, along with old cemetery readings and any other records that could be found. I have also created a similar list for the IGHS (Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society) that includes additional information then what is found here, so please check them out if you are looking for additional information. PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT guarantee the list of be 100% accurate or correct. If you have any additional information or corrections, please feel free to add a note below. Also PLEASE do not copy the list & call it your own - give credit back to COAN.NET or to this site, VermilionCounty.info. Thanks
Video: Below are a couple of quick overview video's of Sandusky (Indianola) Cemetery. These were taken April 2010. Please note: These video's are NOT "professional" or to be used to read stones or anything like that.... these are to show a quick "overview" of the cemetery. For those who may never be able to visit this cemetery in person, these video's are here to show a quick "overview" of the area.
