Cemetery Name: Pentecost Cemetery

Also Known As: DeMoss Cemetery

Location:  Blount Township, North West of Danville

Approximate GPS Location 40.1881 -87.7189 (link to Google Map)

Description: I think Pentecost should be easy to get to with a path pass the house back to the cemetery..... I plan to try to visit this cemetery soon - supposable around 15 stones - fenced in, but possible not maintained - so weeds & brush might be an issue. (Map below of of where I believe cemetery is)

If you can find Stan Pentecost in Danville, he has done lot of research on the Pentecost family going way back. Has info on who is buried out there. Both my daughters have been out in last few year. so far I have not found it.

My grandparents were caretakers of the cemetery for awhile when I was very young. They took me there once or twice when they had to mow pull weeds etc.I dont remember much.I do remember my grandma telling me about one spot that had many graves but no markers because my grandpas family was poor and could not afford markers. My older brother knows where the cemetery is and the man who now owns it has told me he will take me out there later this year.

Subject: Update on Cemetery

As an update on the cemetery, the owner of the property changed hands a couple of years ago and has been more friendly towards visitors (STILL ON PRIVATE PROPERTY - So always ask first.)

But there is a person who has been doing a GREAT JOB in cleaning up the cemetery, and even has some history & pictures up on their own website here:

www.wa9iac.com

I learned about this right when winter set in, so I have not had a chance to visit yet - but do plan on doing my own visit when the weather allows me to.

The Penecost cemetary does sit in a farmers field. My mother, Norma Woodrum, actually has held the deed to this cemetary for many years. My brother and my mothers cousin has spent the past summer cleaning this cemetary up. I have several relatives buried there.
