Pellville Cemetery - Vermilion County Illinois

Cemetery Name: Pellville Cemetery

Also Known As: Pellville Cemetery Prairie, sometimes spelled Pellsville

Location:  Butler Township, west of Rankin

GPS Location 40.46136 -87.92474 (link to Google Map)

Description:  Pellville Cemetery was laid out in 1873, and today (2008) is now a place where praire grass is allowed to grow (making it hard to located all the stones... not to mention dangerous to trip over stones with the tall grass)

Pictures: I visited this cemetery twice. The first time in 2006 in which I discovered it was a "praire" where the grass was starting to grow tall making it hard to see the stones. I then re-visited in March 2007 to get pictures of all the stones before the praire grass had a chance to start growing.

Pictures #1 (2006): 11 pictures (11 on a page, 1 pages)

Pictures #2 (March 2007): 163 pictures (50 on a page, 4 pages)

First let me say you have done a great job on your website...My gg-grandfather donated the land for the Pellville Cemetery which was part of the 40 acres of land they had at that time. I am trying to research the ownership of the land back to the 1850's when they acquired this land..There used to be a house above the cemetery on the east side. Would you know who lives there and/or the legal address of the property where the cemetery/house is? Any help would be greatly appreciated as to how I can find or obtain the history of this land. Thanking you in advance for your invaluable help.

There is some history of the Pellsville settlers in the Rankin centennial book. There are two houses in what is left of the town and one is vacant. Abstacts may have the information you are looking for. They might still exist in the Vermilion co. annex. records office.
