Cemetery Name: Oakhill Cemetery

Also Known As: Chester Cemetery, Kistler Cemetery

Location:  Danville Township, West of Danville

GPS Location 40.11483 -87.71419 (link to Google Map)

Description:  Oakhill Cemetery is also known as Chester Cemetery & Kistler Cemetery. (The hill next to the cemetery is known as Kistler Hill). PICTURED BELOW is the road next to the cemetery - this wall was washed out at least twice in the 1930's which caused a mess of the cemetery as you could guess. Swain cemetery was moved to this cemetery in the 1940's.

Pictures: I took pictures of EVERY stone in this cemetery in October 2007.

Subject: A big Thank You!

I would just like to thank you for all those photographs. Doing a family tree and looking for information is hard enough as it is. I managed to find family members and especially my great grandparents gravesite. How lucky for me! Thank you again for all the hard work you must have had to do. You have made many families very happy. Our appreciation!

Sincerely.

Subject: Mom's Grave

You really put a lot of work into this! It's great! I've ben to Oak Hill plenty of times, but never took a picture of my mom's grave, so now I have one. Practically my whole family is buried there. Grandparents, great grandparents, uncles& aunts (well you know). So thanks for the great job. She's on page #30 top row , 3rd one over I believe. Thanks again!

Subject: My moms grave

First of all I want to thank you for all the extremely hard work you have put into this site. You have done a tremendous job. I have taken to doing my family Genealogy and I enjoy it very much.

My mom passed away in November 2005. I saw that you had taken a picture of her grave but the headstone had not been placed yet. They had the concrete poured, but no stone. My question is, do you go to the cemeteries and update your pictures? I can give you the numbers of the pictures that have her grave in them. She is buried next to her parents. The picture is on Page 39, picture number is il-vermilion-oakhill-1944. Thank you again for all your hard work, and please keep it up.

Reply by Michael Coan (site administrator): At some point, I would like to revisit each cemetery and take pictures of all the newer stones - if a "request" comes along, I might go sooner - otherwise, I still have many cemeteries to still get my first set of pictures, so even though some day I would like to - it may be awhile before I get to it... again, unless someone makes a request for a newer picture then I might run out there sooner.
