Cemetery Name: Missionfield Cemetery

Location:  Oakwood Township, East of Oakwood

Approximate GPS Location 40.1025, -87.7526 (link to Google Map)

Description: The GPS/Map are very approximate location of this cemetery. Missionfield is a small family plot - with possible only 1 burial (maybe a few), maybe not just one cemetery, but possible a few different family plots in this area (same area as Fielder Cemetery). Some remember Missionfield cemetery had small infant stones in a heavily wooded area. Another remembers 3 or 4 stones unfenced in a pasture in the early 1900's. Today, it believes there are no signs of any of these cemeteries.

Subject: Missionfield/ fielder Cemetery

Last year while mushroom hunting I discovered an open brick well deep in the woods. I continued to look around the area and discovered many "misplaced" rocks. I noticed that the ground was sunken in around at least one revealing a partial wooden outline of what I considered a coffin. I have lived on Missionfield road my entire life, and was VERY excited of my discovery! I couldn't get anyone to believe what I found; however, this spring I was determined to validate my theory...and...SUCCESS!!! I discovered a small tumbled over gravestone marked atop with a lamb. The stone read Elva May Fielder 1 YR 7M 1893. I inquired to the Danville Library, and the very helpful staff helped me gather what information there was available. The historical information of this "forgotten" ghost town is very minimal. That is why i believe it is of the up most importance that this area is marked and preserved.
