Subject: Thanks and some Allhands and Goodwin genealogical info
Thanks for all your hard work! The photos are of such good quality and show not only tombstone inscriptions but also locations in the cemetery if the viewer just takes time to study what you've taken time to photograph! Very impressive and a real labor of love! My gggrandfather William Riley Goodwin supposedly moved to Illinois in 1852. By April 1856 he and his growing family lived east of Ludlow near Paxton in Button Twp., Ford Co., IL. His wife, my gggrandmother--Elizabeth Crawford Goodwin, died in May 1862 (during the Civil War) in Button Twp., Ford Co., IL about a week after of the birth of her 8th child--my ggrandfather Frantz Sigel Goodwin (named after a then popular Civil War general who had come from Prussia to help train Union forces). He was kept by an Allhands family for a few years (while his father was still in the Union Army). I'm not sure where the older six children were during this time (the eldest--William Henry Goodwin--was 13 when their mother died) or if Elizabeth (Crawford) Goodwin was related to any Allhands. Frantz Sigel "Sig" Goodwin was named in Elizabeth [wife of Daniel] Allhands will [thanks to info forwarded to me by Grandee]. I have not found where Elizabeth Goodwin was buried. Perhaps it was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery; the index of graves there doesn't list her name, but the intro does say that some fallen markers were pushed aside in some cemeteries. Maybe that's why I have not been able to find out where she is buried. William Henry Goodwin (1849-1925), who married Ella Jarvis Flagg (abt 1850-1926), lived, died and were buried in Ford Co., IL, I believe. Albert Riley Goodwin (1851-1927), married first Lucinda Alice Wright (ca 1853-1886) who was buried in then Mount Olivet Christian Church Cemetery (aka Pleasant Grove Cemetery), Mount Olivet Cemetery, Button Twp., Ford Co., IL. He later married Mary Helmick Selser (1855-abt 1895), and finally Alice Crawford Lane (b. before 1880; married about 1900?). I'm not sure where Albert or his second and third wives were buried. Frantz Sigel Goodwin, his father and "new" wife, plus two sisters, three brothers and two half-brothers all moved to Republic County, KS in 1876 where some are buried. The sisters married and moved west--one, Sarah (who married Lemuel or Leonard Smith) to Oregon and Washington state, the other (Elizabeth who married first Cy Vawter, then John Hendrickson) to Oregon, then California.
