Old Huss Cemetery - Champaign County Illinois

Cemetery Name: Old Huss Cemetery

Location:  St. JosephTownship, North of Sidney

GPS Location 40.05856, -88.07825 (link to Google Map)

Description:  The cemetery was started around 1831, and could have around 400-500 burials. The cemetery is no longer maintained, and is normally very overgrown in the summer months. When I visited in 2006 (pictures on this page), there were a lot of "private" and "no tresspassing" signs posted everywhere. Since that point, a new house has been built in front of the cemetery, with a row of new tree's that will some-day grow and completly hide the cemetery from view.

Pictures: As of February 2012, I have only visited this cemetery once to get GPS location reading, and take a couple of quick overview pictures. I hope to some day re-visit this cemetery to take pictures of all the stones, and of course when I do - I will try to share them on this site.

Hello - I was curious to find out if you might take pictures of stones at the Old Huss Cemetery in Champaign County? I'm looking for the grave of John Ray, died 03/18/1900. He was a member of Co. K, 33rd Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. The Illinois Roll of Honor shows that he was buried at the Huss Cemetery. I did find a listing for the Bill Huss Chapel Cemetery, but he's not listed there. Thanks!
