Cemetery Name: Leal Park

Also Known As: Old Urbana Cemetery

Location:  Cunningham Township, Urbana

Description:  This cemetery was one of the first in the area, used from the late 1820's up to around 1860. The cemetery was never platted into lots, and once Mount Hope cemetery started in 1856, few burials took place here. In 1903, the City of Urbana took over the cemetery. At that time, the living relatives had the choice to move the remains to another cemetery, or have the stones laid flat & buried over. The old cemetery is now Leal Park. (Below is an image of the 1893 plat map showing this old cemetery.
